THE VOWELS

In Drájyór there are 5 vowels (order as in Tibetan):

  A
  I
  E
  U
  O

The sound of vowels may change depending on what follows:

Before all finals and in words with no final (ex. LÁ) vowels remain unchanged

ONLY before the finals  –D, –N and –S (in some dialects also the –L) the following changes occur:

A becomes an open e, like the German a with umlaut (ä):

DǍD
GYÁN
LAS

U becomes ü:

GYÚD
MUN
LUS

O
 becomes ö:

JOD
DǑN
QOS

I remains unchanged:

ÑID
YIN
RIS

E is a closed e, more open before a -N:

MED
LEN
MES
